The story of Absinthe (the green fairy)

Here's what seems to be an authoritative history of Absinthe, an often misunderstood, but surprisingly nice drink. I've tried a couple (at vinopolis, london) and it's a pleasant experience, in great moderation!

"..The taste comes on with all the subtlety of a freight train, and unless youíre a fan of Pernod or anisette, it takes getting used to. Even with the sugar and ice-water dilution, the flavor is full-bore, uncompromising and, for lack of a better phrase, right up in your face."

Found myself looking for an enhanced version of the netstat command, and found this site - which has many freeware and useful system monitoring tools for download.

get2dom.com updated

Posted to Random thoughts by Dominic Winsor on 08 Dec 2002
Hooray! I've updated my website: Cleaned out any rubbish or irrelevant bits, added new content. The site's now focused on web development resources (things I find useful as a professional web developer), the other section is about me, how to contact etc... Take a look around:

Thirteenth Parallel is an excellent site stuffed with interesting articles on JavaScript techniques, user centered design and many tutorials. It's an issue based site with an interesting navigation!

Scope creep is not only inevitable... it's natural!

Whoah there! Now here's an interesting article presenting the idea that allowing requirements to evolve is a normal, acceptable process. I feel an opinion forming already, and I'm not sure that I agree entirely. ooh

Mmmm (fairly traded) chocolate!

The co-op is to double the amount of fair trade chocolate available in the UK. Some of the best chocolate I have tried is fairly traded, and giving a fair deal to farmers is well worth it!

I know it's dull, but here's a very comprehensive (yet short) document on the full UK postcode specification. This recently came in very handy while writing a regex to validate them. ambivalent

Geiss is back

Ryan Geiss makes some of the best winamp visualisation software, and there's a new plugin available - a 3d tunnel zoomer thing! Excellent.

Here's a good mix of science and fun, with an interactive demonstration of some common optical illusions.
